3 upcoming five-star hotels in town | Patna News

Patna: The historic city of Patna will soon have three state-of-the-art five-star hotels to attract domestic and foreign tourists. A decision to this effect was taken during the Council of Ministers held here on Friday.
While two of the proposed hotels would be developed on Beerchand Patel Path, the third will be built on the site of the current Bankipur bus stand near Gandhi Maidan. The three hotels would be built on the land to be given to individuals on a 45-year lease.
Giving details of the proposed constructions, the Principal Secretary of the State Department of Tourism Santosh Kumar Mall said that the need for these modern hotels has been felt for a long time because there are not many places for a comfortable stay of tourists coming from different parts of the world.
He said there has been a huge increase in the number of tourists in recent years. “In 2015, the number of domestic and foreign tourists visiting Patna was 2.80 crore and 9.24 lakh, respectively. But those numbers rose to 3.40 crore and 11 lakh, respectively, in 2019 before the pandemic hit. Considering the rich cultural heritage of Bihar and the historical significance of the city, the number of tourists is bound to increase significantly in the coming times,” he said.
The hotel on Beerchand Patel Path would be built on 1.5 acres of land currently occupied by the Patliputra Ashok Hotel which was handed over to the state government by the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). This hotel was built by ITDC in 1976. The new hotel will have 175 well-furnished rooms with all modern amenities. The second hotel on this same road would be developed into the iconic Sultan’s Palace which currently serves as the headquarters of the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC).
Built in 1922, the Sultan’s Palace is an impressive example of Islamic architecture with a high-domed tower in the center, minarets and a myriad of arches. It was the residence of Sir sultan ahmed, renowned lawyer and judge of the High Court of Patna and first Indian Vice-Chancellor of the University of Patna. The BSRTC office would now be moved to its new building under construction near Phulwarisharif prison.
The new five-star hotel to be developed on 4.8 acres of land currently occupied by the Sultan’s Palace will have a total of 400 rooms. This hotel would be very close to the train station as well as the city airport, Mall said.
The third five-star hotel would be built on 3.5 acres of land currently occupied by Bankipur Bus Station in the heart of the city. This hotel would be located near Bapu Sabhagar (with a capacity of 5000 beds), Bapu Sabhagar (with a capacity of 500 beds) and Patna Medical College Hospital (which is under reconstruction with a capacity of 5000 beds).
Mall said the development of these new five-star hotels will not only provide comfortable residential accommodation for tourists from far and wide, but also promote economic activities by providing instant employment for local youths and businessmen.
A committee headed by the Chief Secretary to the Government of Bihar has been formed to finalize lease details and tenders for the construction of these hotels.
