Edinburgh’s luxury floating Hotel Fingal crowned one of the UK’s top five-star hotels and restaurants
Located on Edinburgh’s bustling waterfront, final sailed the prestigious AA list of hotels and Restaurantsafter receiving five stars for the hotel and two AA rosettes for its flagship restaurant. The floating hotel now joins an exclusive list of just 43 five-star hotels with two AA rosettes across the UK and Northern Ireland. It is also one of only 25 hotels in the country with an overall quality assurance score of 87% or higher.
After two full days of rigorous evaluations, AA inspectors commended Fingal for the exceptional quality of the vessel’s elegant interior design, meticulous attention to detail, unique maritime heritage, exceptional customer service and gastronomy live.
Commenting on the Fingal experience, AA inspectors said, “Condition and quality are excellent. Notable features such as the exposed engine room, bridge, elevator and function space are all fascinating. Design features and details also impressed.
“A very intimate and exclusive feel maintained through the hotel which was created from a working ship – whose heritage is very well established and promoted to guests.” They said there was “a set of very individual rooms that provide a special experience.”
Relaunched as a luxury hotel in 2019, the former tender is now a world-class dining destination with all the glamor and style of a superyacht, but with an air of Art Deco luxury liner elegance from the old world. The hotel’s 23 luxury cabins are each named after Stevenson’s lighthouses, inspired by Edinburgh’s rich maritime heritage
Fingal’s Lighthouse Restaurant and Bar is open to non-residents for afternoon tea, having dinner and cocktails, and also offers a choice of eight self-contained private dining booths for small pre-booked groups. It even hosted the late Queen Elizabeth, who came aboard for dinner.
Earlier this year, Fingal also won awards at the 20th annual Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best awards for the third consecutive year. While being named one of the top 20 luxury hotels in the UK by TripAdvisor users, the Edinburgh hotel has also won the hearts of travelers as one of the 25 most romantic hotels in the UK and the Channel Islands for 2022, ranking 11th ranked in Tripadvisor’s prestigious category of most ‘dream vacations that couples love’.
