Flipkart ventures into hotel booking services

This will make the hospitality industry more competitive. New travel trends are expected to boost the travel industry

E-commerce giant Flipkart entered the travel industry with the launch of Flipkart Hotels, its hotel booking service. The giant has proclaimed that it will offer an economical service. Guests can choose from around 3 lakh domestic and international hotels.

The service will be facilitated by Cleartrip, the online travel aggregator (OTA) arm of Flipkart, and it will use the ticketing platform’s API to search for hotels. In April last year, the giant acquired Cleartrip in a deal worth $40 million.

Now, the main app will have a separate section for hotel reservations, which will eventually lead to heavy traffic for the Flipkart app.

The e-commerce company may be able to increase the number and engagement of hotel owners listed on the platform after becoming a permanent feature of the portal. To increase bookings, products such as EMI options for Flipkart Hotels users will be available.

In a press release, Flipkart said that a dedicated customer service center has been established to assist customers with user-related queries for their convenience and to provide an excellent experience.

After this development, Flipkart is a direct competitor to hotel major OYO and others such as Trivago, Airbnb and Booking.com. Flipkart will make the industry more competitive.

The e-commerce giant is betting on a post-pandemic boom in domestic and international hotel bookings to drive adoption.

Additionally, Flipkart added that so far, 2022 has been a fantastic year for the hospitality industry, with a significant increase in demand in the domestic and international accommodation markets. Exploring lesser known destinations, jobs, long stays and vacation rentals are becoming popular new travel trends. These advancements are boosting the travel industry.
