Hotel room scarcity hits Osun ahead of 2022 election
Ahead of the July 16 Osun gubernatorial election, hotel rooms in Osogbo were fully booked, with little to no space available.
A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent who visited some hotels in Osogbo on Wednesday said most rooms in several hotels were already booked by political party officials, NGOs, government officials and officials. key players participating in the election.
Hotel accommodation prices have increased due to the influx of guests from other states for the poll.
During a visit to the Spring Leisure Hotel, along Dele-yes sir, a receptionist told the NAN correspondent that there were no vacant rooms.
Also at the Ideal Nestle Hotel, a receptionist who also preferred anonymity said all rooms had been booked.
He said politicians and dignitaries came from Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Ekiti and other places for the election.
“These representatives of the people come to pay for their reservation before they even arrive, which means that all our rooms are full before the election on Saturday.”
NAN further observed that some hotel premises had security personnel and their vehicles parked inside and outside the hotels.
NAN reports that political party candidates vying for the governorship include Senator Ademola Adeleke (PDP), Mr. Lasun Yussuf (Labour Party) and Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
The Nigeria Police Force is expected to deploy 21,000 officers for the election, while INEC has moved 12 RECs and five National Commissioners to the state to oversee its conduct.
In addition, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it would deploy 1,500 officers to strategic locations for the safety of life and property, with the Nigerian Security Civil Defense Corps having hundreds of men ready for the elections.
Election observers for the exercise include YIAGA Africa, National Democratic Institute (NDI) and Kimpact Developed Initiative (KDI), among other civil society organizations
A peace accord by all political parties is expected to be signed by the gubernatorial candidates on Wednesday, to allow the peaceful conduct of the election.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) held its grand campaign finale on Tuesday, while that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and others are expected between Wednesday and Thursday. (NOPE)
