Revealed: the 10 cities in the world with the most five-star hotels

Dubai was ranked second in the world for the most five-star hotels in the world, according to the latest wealth report released by Knight Frank.

The ranking – compiled by Five Star Alliance – examines the best cities in the world with the most five-star hotels in 2017. It revealed that London topped the list with 75, followed by Dubai with 61 and New York. with 59.

No other regional city was included in the ranking.

The report also looked at the world’s top cities for average spend per overnight visitor (as of 2016). While the Australian city of Melbourne was ranked first with $ 1,925, Dubai came second with a spend of $ 1,917 and Sydney came third with $ 1,829.

However, overnight visitors to Dubai turned out to be the biggest spenders overall, with a total spend of $ 28.5 billion. New York was in second place, with visitors spending $ 17 billion.

Dubai has seen significant growth in the hospitality industry as it moves towards realizing its tourism vision of attracting 20 million tourists per year by 2020.

In a study last month, Dubai Tourism forecast that the supply of hotel rooms in the emirate would increase by 11.1% per year during the period 2017-2019 to reach 132,000.

While the emirate has focused on its mid-range offerings in recent years, the luxury segment continues to dominate the Dubai hospitality market.

In December of last year, what was claimed to be Dubai’s “most expensive hotel” opened to the public. The Bulgari Resort is part of a larger project under development by the Meraas holding company.

It has 101 hotel rooms and suites and 20 hotel villas with luxury Italian furnishings and views of the Dubai skyline or the Arabian Gulf from an exclusive location on a seahorse-shaped island off the coast of Jumeirah Road.

Earlier this year, another luxury hotel – claiming the title of the world’s tallest hotel – opened in the emirate. The Gevora Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road, standing 356 meters and 53 centimeters high, offers 528 rooms for its guests.
