Why Asian Travelers Choose Non-Hotel Accommodation

Where do you like to stay when you are on vacation? In hotels or resorts or opt for private accommodation to feel at home? Yes you are part of the latter group, then you are in good company as an increasing number of Asians are opting for non-hotel accommodation (NHA), also known as homestay, on their travels.

This is revealed by agoda in his “Travel and Technology Study,” which examines the motivations and booking behaviors of travelers behind the rise in NHAs. The research is based on a survey of more than 16,000 people aged 18 to 64 in 15 countries.

The accommodation platform claims that “over 1.5 million properties around the world have included all kinds of host families, providing a unique perspective on the impact of NHAs over time.”

Here are the NHA trends the study reveals:

Indonesian (79%), Singaporean (71%), Filipino (82%) and Thai (80%) travelers are most likely to consider booking a homestay when traveling to Asia. Likewise, travelers from the UK (88%), US (84%) and Australia (75%) will opt for a private home on their home continent.
